Throwback Thursday: Florida Photo Shoot

Hello Lovelies!! It's Throwback Thursday!! Wait, are we still doing that? If so then I am on point, if not...ummm...then forgive my old school mindset lol!! So while I was going through some pictures earlier this week of when I lived in Florida, I came across some pictures from a photo shoot I did for my husband. No, no, no...not THAT kind of photo shoot. Get your mind out of the gutter! Those personal boudoir pictures are in my N.O.P.E filing section: Not Open to Prying Eyes!

Okay so I completely digressed, but my husband (then Fiancé) was deployed to Afghanistan and I wanted to send him an extra special treat along with his care box. I think it is so important to keep in contact with your significant other when they are far away from you and it is really nice to do something endearing for them...like a photo shoot of you looking good!!! HAHAHA!!! Yeah I guess you could say I was feeling pretty confident back then and come to think of it, I guess I was not as shy as I thought I was. I really enjoyed taking these pictures and I'm glad that I have something to look back on. My days in Florida were amazing and while I may no longer live in the sunshine state, I can always reflect on my time there through my photos....and maybe a tropical drink.

Splurge or Save

Hello Lovelies and Happy Hump Day!! We are halfway there to the weekend ladies and gents and I am really looking forward to it! It's Memorial Day weekend which means you will find me at a delicious BBQ meet up eating lots and lots of good food! Not to mention the outfit I'll be wearing, but I'll feed you in on that in a later post.

Lately I've been really into the floral look. There is something so delicate and fun about the print. One thing I love about this whimsical motif is that it comes in so many forms. From literal designs to abstract watercolor, florals are a great way to add color and pizazz to your look. You can introduce it into your wardrobe through a skirt/dress, a top, even a handbag...or in some cases a lunch bag. If you are ever unsure about trying a particular print or pattern, you can always try it out on a much smaller scale. I like to do this by trying it on via a shoe. With Spring in fool bloom there are endless options of floral patterned shoes and sandals to choose from. All you have to ask yourself is how much are you willing to spend for it.

Here is a great Splurge or Save comparison of two floral heeled sandals I think would be a great addition to any closet. Tell me, are you all in for the Steve Madden Splurge or a bit more reserved for the Payless Save?

Aloha Beach Blues

Hello Lovelies!! I hope your week is going fabulously well! I must admit I have been a bit blue lately. Yeah I was looking though some pictures of when I lived in Florida and started to get kinda sad. Silly I know since I mean it's been like 6 years since I moved back to Connecticut, why would I be getting prior state sick now? I don't know, I guess I just miss being able to go to the beach whenever I wanted and sit by the beautiful clear waters. Sure I guess I could do that where I live now, but it's not the same. In Florida there are beautiful beaches with white sand and clear blueish green waters. Here in the great New England state it's more like a shoreline.

Don't get me wrong, there are some great spots to retreat to around here, but there were places where I use to live that made me feel like I was always on vacation. Sigh, I think I am just longing for a change of scenery. Doesn't everyone need a new view every now and then? Yeah I think now is my time. I guess when you can't get away to where you want to when you want to, you have to find other ways to travel. Alright, time to take my own travel advice and get inspired by some warm weather outfit touches. Yeah I think this should hopefully do the trick in luring away the prior state sick blues......at least for now.

Aloha!

Thrift-Ten Fix

Hello Lovelies! It's time for another week of Thrift-Ten Fix! As promised I am looking to keep this series up and rolling every other week, so here are some fabulous finds I made with only $10 to spend. I think I did a pretty good job with what I found and am so excited to share them with you! Let's get into it!

Find #1

This floral bodysuit was a steal at $3.99. It was supposed to be marked down to lower than that since it had a blue tag on it, but I wasn't paying attention. By the time I realized it I was already down the road. Shame on me!! Lesson learned make sure to watch those numbers and those tags!! It's okay Goodwill, I'll let is slide this time since it was within my price range. I guess the extra two dollars I spent on this sweetie is worth it though. I was hesitant about it at first, but after much deliberation I settled on purchasing it and I'm glad I did. There is so much I can pair this suit with. From shorts, to skirts, to jeans, the options are endless. At first glance I thought it was just a pretty floral bodysuit, but the added scallop detailing along the top puts it over for me. I wore it on Mother's Day for my #StyleMeMay modern "Vintage Vixen" look. I'd say from the compliments I received Sunday, it was definitely a great find.

Find #2

Scanning the short sleeve aisle I came across this sheer, sequin Old Navy tank and snatched it up immediately. The price was right up my alley at $3.99, but since it had a blue tag was marked down to $2.00. Of course that wasn't the only reason why I got it. This beauty is perfect for layering with a pretty camisole underneath. I love that the sequin is more of an accent and not a disco ball all over the front of the tank. The front hem dips down a bit lower than the back which I love and the mute gray, brownish tone is a great neutral to pair with various other items in my wardrobe. This little number was definitely a steal and it will definitely get much wear.

After tallying up my goods, my finds cost me a whopping $5.99 plus tax. For a little over $6.00 I'd say that's not bad for two unique pieces. Yes it could have been lower than that if I'd been paying attention to the bodysuit being rung up, but can you blame me? I was too distracted by these fabulous finds and what I would do with them.

So there you have it! I hope you enjoyed this Thrift-Ten Fix post and stay tuned for more great finds under $10 coming in two weeks!!

Vintage Mother's Day

Hello Lovelies! I hope all you gorgeous mother's out there had a fabulous Mother's Day!! If you're not a mother, I hope your Sunday was just as beautiful as you!! Sunday was such a blessing for me but as nice it is having a holiday dedicated to being a mother, I actually consider everyday to be Mother's Day. Why you ask? Well, everyday I wake up to see that little face smiling at me and I realize that being a mother is an all day everyday job. It is because of my beautiful mini me that I am a mother to begin with, so I consider everyday a celebration that I am blessed with such an angel!

I must admit I felt so beautiful Sunday though. I took a bit of inspiration from the #StyleMeMay challenge and tuned into my inner "Vintage Vixen". I mean doesn't every mother out there want to still feel like a hot mama? I know I do...with a bit of modesty of course. So I reached into my closet and pulled some of my favorite items to pull my classic pinup...A-HEM, modest vixen look. I love midi skirts, pretty prints, and vibrant colors so why not combine them right? I think my outfit was just what I needed to feel like even though I'm a mother I still got it. Yeah, I'd say it's all right to be reminded that I'm classic pinup worthy...just with a bit more clothes on....and a bit of Spanx here and there lol!!

Quirky Little Rain Drops

Hello Lovelies! Today's forecast is cloudy skies with a chance of showers. For the record let me set it straight, I don't like the rain. My clothes get wet, windshield gets fogged up when I drive, and my umbrella always seems to go inside out from the wind. Nope, rain is definitely at the bottom of the weather barrel for me.

I mean I know those pesky little droplets are necessary for the grass to grow and the florals to bloom, but does it have to be raining when I need to go outside? Maybe instead of a rain cloud above my head I can walk around with a sunny spotlight. Be isolated from the rain in a dry, sunny spotlight that moves with me. Not possible I know, but I can imagine it right? Maybe a few quirky pieces for those rainy days could help to put a smile on my face. After all, who doesn't want to sing in the rain.....under an umbrella that at least has clear blue skies...Sigh!

All In The Details

Hello Lovelies and Happy Hump Day!! I love trying new looks and putting different outfits together in my wardrobe but, let's face it sometimes I need a bit of inspiration (and motivation) to get going. Last month I came across Hilary Rushford's "#StyleMeApril" challenge on Instagram where she gives you prompts for outfit looks for each day of the month. I loved seeing the outfits other lovelies came up with and thought that I would give it a try for this month. So starting May 1st I joined in on the "#StyleMeMay" fun and let me tell you, I am so glad I did. Each day I look to push myself with the prompts and I must admit that I am loving the outcomes. I am finding that I am having a better appreciation for my wardrobe and realizing that my clothes are not as boring as I thought! Just don't tell my husband I said that or else he'll use my "I don't have anything to wear" statement against me. LOL!!

The Day 6 "Pretty Little Layers" prompt was a great way to pair some of my favorite pieces together. Sometimes it's all about the details that make layers something truly special. When it comes to layering, I learned that it is best to pair thin layers together. With thin layers you can always put another one on top and add or take away bulk as desired. From lace to knits, denim to cotton tanks the layering possibilities are endless. Layers are a great way to add dimension and texture to your look. By layering basic items with others or even more extravagant patterns/textured fabrics you are giving your closet more use and wear. Just have fun, make it yours and remember,...it's all in the details!

Teacher's Appreciation Day

Hello Lovelies! It's National Teacher's Appreciation Day which means here is your chance to thank those teachers for taking the time to fill your noggin with essential...and sometimes not so essential knowledge. Not in school but have a teacher friend? No problem you can show any teacher some love today! No discrimination here! :)

There are so many ways to show your professor how much you appreciate their hard work and dedication to keep you academically informed. The gift of the traditional crisp, red apple is so old school. Seriously, does anyone do that anymore? I guess if you're trying to keep the doctor away which is great for their health, but that's not as fun or chic. Sure you may be viewed as the teacher's pet but who cares! When it comes to grading your paper, your teacher is sure to think twice after drinking a hot cup of coffee out that face mug you bought them.

Here are a few scholarly finds to conjure up that "Thank You" gift giving inspiration. I think they are sure to ace to an A+...more like a A+++++++++++!!

South Moon Under Grand Opening Party

Hello Lovelies!! Last Thursday had to of been one of the best days for me! I mean seriously what a great way to start the month of May!! Why you ask? Well, South Moon Under has made a new home right here in my neck of the woods!! I attended the ribbon cutting of their new Westport, CT location back in March--I know, shame on me for not posting pictures--and had the opportunity to attend their Grand Opening Celebration last week.

Upon arrival to the store, I was immediately greeted by a fun, dance inducing DJ spinning great tunes and stylish South Moon Under associates. The team there is so friendly and they really know how to dress for the occasion. From start to finish, this amazing affair featured fabulous clothing, accessories, and signature refreshments. Not to mention the mini cupcakes which seemed to tempt me throughout the evening. Of course I had one...or two...Okay, okay, I had three, but they were too cute to pass by!

On top of their great style offerings, they also had a trunk show featuring one of my absolute favorite jewelry lines, House Of Harlow!! Yes lovelies as soon as I walked into the store, there sitting gracefully before me was a deliciously styled table of nothing but House Of Harlow goodies. A stylishly chic House Of Harlow representative was there to answer any questions we had about the line as well as show us sweet ways to wear them.

From the Classic Station necklaces to the Signature Starburst designs, each gem had me completely smitten. The House Of Harlow jewelry line has such a classic yet modern feel to it. Believe me when I say pictures of them online do it absolutely no justice! Each piece is delicate in nature, but has a strong yet feminine touch. I love how each design is unique yet the whole collection ties together perfectly. It's like one big, chic accessory family!

The festivities were remarkable, but the fun didn't stop there! Amongst the show stopping threads and timeless jewelry displays mingled eyebrow connoisseurs from Benefit Cosmetics. Along with great tips and products on ways to fill in those shabby brows, this 'pop up' bar offered Free EyeBrow threading sessions. My brows were a bit too scarce to enjoy the intricate plucking, but I did get to try out some eye brow gel to fix that. It's amazing how different your face can look once your eyebrows are done. A shapely brow can really do the trick to frame your eyes and bring more definition to your face. I must admit I don't know much about beauty products, but I'd say it's definitely on the top of my list.

To top off this fabulous celebration, South Moon Under along with House Of Harlow and other sponsors gave away swag bags to the first 50 guests to arrive at the party. I was number 22 and my sister was number 23 so...WE GOT SOME SWAG!!! Included amongst the goodies was something extra special! I received my very first House Of Harlow jewelry!! Happy Early Mother's Day to me!!!

Isn't is darling? Oh my goodness I was so ecstatic to get one! The necklace is just the perfect touch to jazz up any outfit for Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter...basically all year round! I'm looking forward to layering it with other necklaces for a unique statement look!

Overall, I really enjoyed the event and am very satisfied with what the new South Moon Under store has to offer. It's a fun, hip spot with something for everyone and when it comes to having a good time while you shop, they really know how to do it right!!

Thrift-Ten Fix

Hello Lovelies!! I have been out of the style mingle loop the past few days and I blame it on this confused weather. One minute it looks like it's going to be warm temperatures and sunny days, next it's breezy, cool and outright raining. I know spring is suppose to be a mix of temperatures with lots of rain, but is it bad of me to be anxious for the warmer air? I guess that's why I jumped on this fabulous find at my local thrift store in high hopes of late spring's warm air and bright sun.

It's been a long time since I've done a Thrift-Ten Fix post. What initially was suppose to be a weekly post series has somewhat turned into a rather non existent series. I guess I wasn't anticipating life to take charge and tell me how a designated posting actually works. Well excuse me father time but I gave birth to this project and I intend to keep it a float, so work with me here! LOL!! In agreement with the good ole "Big Papa Tick-Tock", I've decided to in turn make this a bi-weekly series instead of weekly. Let's be honest, as much as I want to go to my favorite consignment shops every week, life basically has the ultimate say over my schedule. Childcare, birthday parties, work, and other shenanigans have priority over the tickety-tock of my everyday clock. So, I hope you don't mind when I say that I possibly bit off a bit more than I could chew when I initially said it would be weekly. Not to fret though, I intend on still making and sharing fabulous finds under $10...just on a bi-weekly schedule.

All right, now that the air is clear let me show you the lovely find I made at one of my favorite Goodwill stores.

This cute little dress looked so sweet with the feminine detailing along the bust line. White wash dots throughout the chambray fabric reflect a lightweight casual look perfect on it's own or layering under light cardigans for those much anticipated spring breezes.

Thrift shopping is so much fun to me because I love that I can find great second hand clothes for cheap, but one thing I love even more than that is finding brand new items at my local thrift shops. As I mentioned in a prior post, Target tends to donate a lot of clearance items to my local Goodwills. I am not sure if this is just local or if Target does it everywhere, but if you do find some Target goodies at your local Goodwill take it and run!!

At Target, this dress was marked down to $8.38. Not bad for a cute Spring/Summer dress in my opinion. I most likely would have bought this dress at that price if I found it in Target, but guess what...I didn't!! LOL!! Nope it was gracefully hanging on a rack in Goodwill so the price had to of been something even better. What is it you ask?

Wait for it.......Wait for it.......$3.99!! YES, at that price it was an even better steal! I was so happy to pick up this little jewel for a fraction of the price I would have spent not only brand new at Target, but on clearance.

Like any other fashion/style loving girl, I love to go shopping, but there is just something extra special about thrift shopping on a budget that makes purchasing an item for my closet that more rewarding. After this find, I think my Thrift-Ten Fix luck is picking up!

Edible Style: Tropical "Tres Frutas" Smoothie

Hello Lovelies!!! The temperature is rising which means that Summer days are slowly approaching. Yes, I know Spring is still amongst us and I should just enjoy the fact that I don't have to wear a heavy coat anymore. It's true, Spring is rather enjoyable, but I must admit that I am really looking forward to those warm, sunny days on the beach where I can lay out under a big umbrella. Don't get me wrong I like the sun and all, but a girl's got to watch out for those direct sun rays on her skin, know what I mean? Topical sunscreen, a warm summer breeze, and some music while I relax by the sea sounds riveting!

Of course that includes staying hydrated with an ice cold beverage in my hand. When I need a little getaway but can't seem to get away physically, I like to "travel" through the flavors of my food. One of the easiest ways to do so is with a tropical smoothie. There are so many great fruits that are perfect for smoothies and when combined take me on a caribbean escapade right at home. This exotic trip to taste bud paradise starts with frozen fruit--three in particular.

Frozen pineapple chunks, peach slices, and mangos cubes blended with vanilla soy yogurt, coconut milk, and a pinch of spearmint was just what I needed to put me on the course to vacation alley. There are so many combinations you could do with this smoothie travel concept. Depending on where you'd like to be carried away, pick three fruits, a yogurt/protein, liquid, and mint or other fresh garden herb and blend until your heart's content. Then pour it, put a straw in it, and indulge in one of the best flavor trips you've ever had right in the confines of your humble abode. It may not be a permanent fix for those travel bug desires you've been harvesting, but it is a quick fix for those location stagnant blues.

So what is your take on the Tropical "Tres Frutas" Smoothie? Could it be Edible-ly Stylish?
